We hope that the " breakers yard " with its down-market image immortalised in a thousand thrillers will become a thing of the past and that all of those remaining will work together to clean up their somewhat tarnished image.
From now on these "DISMANTLERS", will be serious industries dealing with the elimination of vehicles at the end of their lives.

To obtain the status of "DISMANTLER", the rules of the statute RE/DEM/02 specific to car breakers must be applied. These are :

• Respect of the environment :

- Depollution of the vehicle by systematic removal of all polluting fluids such as : fuel, lubricants, coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid, battery acid etc.. .

- Recuperation and stocking of these fluids in order to have them dealt with and recycled by appointed collectors

• Friendly treatment of customers in a suitable area

• Awareness training of workers to respect the environment in all aspects of their job ;

• Recording and complete follow up of each vehicle entering, the system for ease of traceability and to give a clear control over the processing of paperwork including registration documents ;
This traceability is largely made easier by the use of customised computer programmes

All these characteristics are regularly controlled by various official organisations.
